Pre-Arranged Funerals

Pre-arrangement allows an individual or family to select funeral merchandise and services prior to death. Planning ahead relieves the family members of making difficult decisions during a time of personal loss and provides financial protection of a funeral service at today's prices.

If you are going to make an informed choice when you pre-arrange your funeral, you need to know what you want, how much you can afford to pay, if guarantees are provided on merchandise and services, and what happens if you move and want to change funeral homes.

The total cost of the funeral service is determined by the price of the casket, outer burial container and type of service selected. During the pre-arrangement conference, a complete general price list, casket price list and an outer container price list is presented and explained. If a unique service is requested, you should discuss this in detail with the Funeral Director to determine if the service can be provided. After the type of service desired has been determined and the selection of merchandise has been made, two payment options are available - payment in full or payment through installments.

The pre-need funeral contract should identify the person selling the contract, the person purchasing the contract, and the person for whom the contract is purchased, if the arrangement is for someone else. In Ontario, only Funeral Directors may pre-arrange your funeral. With respect to other provinces, check your province law and the credentials of the person selling the pre-need funeral contract.
